A Christmas Story, Isidro Coronas, 2nd Intermediate

We are a sheaf of old Christmas cards, tied with a faded yellow ribbon. We are kept in a drawer of an ancient desk in the attic of an old cottage among a lot of old junk. We feel a bit sad because we are abandoned in this ugly place. Our owner is a lone old man. He no longer has a wife, family or friends: they have already died. We think that he doesn´t mind being alone, that he is used to living like that and that he doesn´t feel lonely because he neither looks for any new friends nor any new wife. We also think that he has become bitter, unfriendly, unsociable and taciturn and that he doesn´t like people any longer because his life has been hard and he has suffered a lot. However, every year on the twenty-fourth of December he comes up to the attic, opens our drawer and takes our sheaf out. He unties our yellow ribbon, picks one of us and starts to read it: ´Wishing you a merry Christmas and a happy new year´ After this, he chooses another one and he reads it too: ´Season´s greetings and best wishes for the new year´ He reads all of us one by one slowly and quietly: ´The day of the birth of our Lord is the time to spread peace, love and good will to everyone´ ´Wishing you a blessed, joyful and merry Christmas´ ´Christmas is a season of joy and charity, may God make you very rich in both´ ´Greetings of the season and many good wishes for the coming year´ ´Season´s greetings´ ´Christmas greetings and best wishes for the new year´ ´Wishing you all the joys of the holiday season, a peaceful Christmas be yours´ ´May God blessings be yours´ ´Peace on earth will come to stay when we live Christmas every day´ ´A joyous Christmas´ ´Christmas greetings´ ´For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord´. Luke 2:11 ´When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy´. Mathew 2:10. ´Wishing you a very happy Christmas´ ´Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward men´. Luke 2: 14 ´Let us go and see this great thing that has happened´. Luke 2:15b ´Just like the tree may your Christmas be bright and merry. Happy Christmas´ ´Wishing you the best at Christmas and always´ ´Wishing you peace, joy, love and all the blessings from above. Merry Christmas´ ´Wish you a happy festive season. Merry Christmas´ ´Have a merry Christmas and a happy holiday season´ ´May the spirit of Christmas bring happiness, peace, joy and blessings to you and your loved ones´ ´May this Christmas bring gifts of blessings, peace, love and joy to you and your home´ ´May this Christmas bring gifts of blessings, peace, love and joy to your heart and home´ ´May peace be your gift at Christmas and your blessing all year through. Merry Christmas´ ´May this Christmas bring love, peace and goodwill to you. Merry Christmas´ ´May the spirit of peace and goodwill that Christmas brings always be with you´ ´Love and peace to you on Christmas and always. Merry Christmas´ ´May this Christmas bring good tidings of peace and harmony for you´ ´May this Christmas bring glad tidings of peace and harmony for you´ While he is reading us the sullen expression on his face disappears and he smiles to himself. Then the whole sheaf of old Christmas cards, we all feel very important.
