Mr. Brownlow wasn´t sure that Oliver had robbed him, so he was sorry for saying that the child had done it. What´s more, Oliver´s features were vaguely known for the old gentleman. Moreover, the child was ill and lying in the street, so Mr. Brownlow felt sorry for him.
I believe Mr. Brownlow was a very good and caritative person. He wasn't sure about Oliver's culpability, and when the bookseller appeared and told the truth, he helped Oliver and take him to his own house.It seems that Brownlow felt sympathy about the poor boy and maight find something familiar looking at him.
Because Oliver was very ill and Oliver reminded him of someone but Mr.Brownlow did not know to whom.
